Tax Year 2015: 1099 Consolidated Statements Mailing Schedule

In our effort to continue to provide you with timely information, we wanted to share with you the LPL Financial mailing schedule for your 1099 Consolidated Tax Information Statements, for tax year 2015. These mailings are staggered in order to meet all IRS deadlines, reduce errors, and reduce the amount of corrected tax forms (1099s) you will receive. Providing timely information is a priority, but it is equally important that LPL Financial provides you with accurate and reliable tax information the first time you receive it.

The first phase includes accounts with the simplest tax information, and will be issued on February 1, 2016.

Phase two statements will be issued on the standard IRS deadline of February 16, 2016, which will include accounts holding securities (REIT, UIT, foreign security and/or municipal bond funds) that may be subject to reclassification.

As it is common for certain investment types to experience income reclassification (sometimes referred to as income reallocation) and other adjustments made by issuers each year after the standard IRS deadline of February 16, 2016, LPL will again file for a 30-day extension with the IRS in an effort to reduce the number of 1099s you receive. Holders of securities impacted by delayed tax information will have their 1099 Consolidated statement issued in phase three, on March 15, 2016.

All of this said, a few corrected 1099s may still be sent out after March 15th. Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing who will receive them. So, as in the past, we recommend that you do not complete/file your tax return until late March or early April. This can help avoid the necessity of amending a return, if a corrected 1099 is issued.
